Hey,
if you liked the LOTR stuff, you should keep checking out soundtracks - that is how I got hooked on classical music... There are albums by orchestras that are like "best of compilations". Two that I would recommend that have a lot of different things on them are the Boston Pops Orchestra album By Request (the music of John Williams) and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra's album The Great Fantasy Adventure Album. Also the Star Wars Soundtracks are pretty neat - try to find a compilation of them to get all the best tunes. These might point you towards other things you will like. If you want to check out some more straightforward classical, I would suggest The Planets by Gustav Holst. It was inspired by the astrological characterizations of the planets. It is very dramatic music, like a soundtrack. In fact, this was the music that George Lucas originally wanted to be the soundtrack for Star Wars. That couldn't happen due to copyright and licensing issues, so he told Williams to write music that had the same character. If you listen carefully you'll hear plenty of similarities! Enjoy, and don't hesitate to post other questions.
