awesome classical
just got some of the music from LOTR and wanted to know if anyone knew any other classical music that was really good. I have one that was done by the composer of the Final Fantasy 7 game that is so good everytime I hear it I can't help but sing the tune out loud. I will try to get a link to a page where you can get the song.

ok I found the link to that song, the download is free.
http://www.nobuouematsu.com/main.html go to this link, on the left side there are some drop menus. drag down the "download" drop menu and select music. on the next page click "MP3", there should be a file on this page called the best of Final Fantasy VII. it's a live performance and kicks serious ass. if you are a fan of final fantasy or classical you will love it. |

Hey,
if you liked the LOTR stuff, you should keep checking out soundtracks - that is how I got hooked on classical music... There are albums by orchestras that are like "best of compilations". Two that I would recommend that have a lot of different things on them are the Boston Pops Orchestra album By Request (the music of John Williams) and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra's album The Great Fantasy Adventure Album. Also the Star Wars Soundtracks are pretty neat - try to find a compilation of them to get all the best tunes. These might point you towards other things you will like. If you want to check out some more straightforward classical, I would suggest The Planets by Gustav Holst. It was inspired by the astrological characterizations of the planets. It is very dramatic music, like a soundtrack. In fact, this was the music that George Lucas originally wanted to be the soundtrack for Star Wars. That couldn't happen due to copyright and licensing issues, so he told Williams to write music that had the same character. If you listen carefully you'll hear plenty of similarities! Enjoy, and don't hesitate to post other questions. |

This may or may not be your thing, but give Yngwie J. Malmsteen a try, especially his Concreto Suite album. I gotta agree with you about the FF7 music. The game kicks ass and so does its music Also check out FF8 sound track. Same deal. FF9 and FF10 soundtrack are a bit weaker but still enjoyable. I think all their music is by... London Symphony Orchestra? Not sure.

While we are on the subject of orchestra/video game music may I recommend the soundtrack of Castevania: Symphony of the Night? Intresting mix of Orchestra, jazz, and rock.

There's tons of awesome classical music, way too many to try and list. Then there's also some pretty dull stuff that's very uninteresting to listen to. And while I'm a fan of some Yngwie stuff, his Concerto album certainly wouldn't fit with most people, though yeah I do like it. The overture to Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro is a classic and personally I find it kicks ass. Beethoven's 5th is great. And Mozart's Requiem. Tons of other stuff out there, just gotta keep your mind open.
