I'm sort of an X mac user. I cut my teeth on them and still really love them, but I just can't afford it. Running debian linux now. But if I did have a mac the first thing I would do would be to install
http://fink.sourceforge.net/ (it might be a bit more of a pain to install than some of the software your used to, but its also the last thing you will ever need to install.
As to Apples connections with the devil we all know that steve jobs sold his soul for the "reality distortion feild" that he frequently employs no matter how hard he tries to hide his connection to the church of satan!!
