Girdwood is a beautiful area, there is a lot of hiking, gold-panning and you can go to the restaurant at the Aleyska ski lodge (4 star).
The pinks are running so a short drive will get you to some good fishing.
If you have time drive to Seward and see the Sea-life museum or go to Homer.
