Heading for Alaska.
I am visiting my best friend in Girdwood, Alaska, right outside Anchorage. I am there for 10 days at the beginning of August. Is there anyone out there that can suggest something I should experience? I plan to fish, but don't know where to start looking for a charter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been there once and all I can say is...."It's truly GODS country. UNFUKINBELIEVEABLE!!
Alaska is THEEEEE most beautiful state in the union and once you get there you will now why. If you go stream fishing, which you better....make sure you bring PLENTY of skeeter repellent and if I was you I would start eating garlic tabs now(take one a day to keep the bugs away) Take a HELO ride up to the mountains and just go and enjoy nature. Also remember you are going when the sun never really sets, and it does fuck with your sleeping at first. Have a great time and bring lottttttssssss of cash, it's a little pricey up there.

apart from a hike, a HELO trip and fishing, I don't think there's must to do, other than drink and eat
But when you do, look around. Enjoy the scenery, like KeyserSoze said: it's beautiful, just be sure to see everything and not just glance at nature

Girdwood is a beautiful area, there is a lot of hiking, gold-panning and you can go to the restaurant at the Aleyska ski lodge (4 star).
The pinks are running so a short drive will get you to some good fishing. If you have time drive to Seward and see the Sea-life museum or go to Homer. |

Never been to Alaska but have travelled through the western part of the Yukon Territories near the Alaska border and one thing I can tell you if you plan on going fishing or do anything in the great out of doors. Take a shitload of deet. They got skeeters and deer flies there that will tear a strip off you and come back for more. Its beautiful country and the fishing is spectacular.
