I have seen and heard of nightmares with Uhaul. Mostly with the pickup/van based trucks. They keep the trucks in service way longer than the other companies.
I rent from Budget when our GM Topkick is in for service and always miss the Cat turbo. Never had a problem. Extra money is nothing compared to the money lost delivering stuff late.
If you know you will get a newer truck it might be worth it.
