Want to help make a difference? Speak with your money. Don't buy it. Better yet, don't download it either. Go to a few local clubs, find some good local bands and start requesting thier tunes on your local radio stations. I haven't bought an RIAA approved disc in a few years and don't really intend to either. Just downloading the album and bitching about Metallica's politics just makes their case stronger. Giving them the finger and not listening to their stuff anymore helps the little guys.
If I don't buy it, and you don't buy it, and that guy over their doesn't... All of a sudden, there are 10 million albums rotting in warehouses. RIAA will notice then.
That said, the new Metallica album is possibly the first album I want to buy since I started my personal boycott... 1 album, 1 dvd with a bunch of studio recordings, and about 7 hours of bootleg concert videos for $15? That's not a bad deal at all...
