I imagine this will be the first of many horror stories...
I'm 42 yrs old but very active. I loved running, tennis, bball, etc. Also very active in taking care of the 5 acres I have around the house
In August of 2000, I saw a hornets nest hanging off the roof. I got out a step ladder and long pole. I was going to knock it down, run inside, and spray it through the screen window where it landed. Simple right?
I climbed to about 5 ft off the ground and knocked the nest off. Thats when things went wrong. The nest(about the size of a coconut) bounced off the house and came right at me. Instinctively, I jumped out of the way. Of course, when you are up on a ladder and jump, the only way to go is down.
I hit the cement, fractured my right shoulder, herniated a disk in my neck, suffered a dozen hornet stings, and worst of all, crushed my heel(calcaneus). The heel is like an egg- hard outer coating but all soft inside. There is no good way to fix it.
The pain was severe for a while. Now 2 yrs later, I walk with a limp and cannot run, pivot or jump. I've been to the best specialists in NYC and they can't promise me much without extensive surgery and long rehab, which I can't afford. It still hurts everyday.
Worst of all, that fucking hornets nest is back up there....
