Broken Clavicle
A little while ago I broke my collarbone playing Lacrosse. Now I've had a nail go through the fleshy part of my arm, I've had a cactus thorne stuck in my finger for the better part of a year, I've had surgery and I've been shot in the nuts with a paintball gun from close range, and nothing has hurt more than this. Nothing. I was rushed to the ER and was given Vicodine. Now Vicodine has Codine in it (viCODINE, vicodine....geddit?) and Codine is from Opium, which is really strong. After taking two Vicodine, the pain was still too intence for me to bear, thats how bad it was. Before the injury, I was asked to represent California on an All Star team. This was a great honor, and I was so happy to get on a plane with a bunch of lacrosse heros and experts and players to NYC for a tourniment, and you could imagine what a let down it would be to break your collarbone a week before you leave. Does anyone have any similar mishaps or injurys? Nobody I know knows what its like.

I imagine this will be the first of many horror stories...
I'm 42 yrs old but very active. I loved running, tennis, bball, etc. Also very active in taking care of the 5 acres I have around the house In August of 2000, I saw a hornets nest hanging off the roof. I got out a step ladder and long pole. I was going to knock it down, run inside, and spray it through the screen window where it landed. Simple right? I climbed to about 5 ft off the ground and knocked the nest off. Thats when things went wrong. The nest(about the size of a coconut) bounced off the house and came right at me. Instinctively, I jumped out of the way. Of course, when you are up on a ladder and jump, the only way to go is down. I hit the cement, fractured my right shoulder, herniated a disk in my neck, suffered a dozen hornet stings, and worst of all, crushed my heel(calcaneus). The heel is like an egg- hard outer coating but all soft inside. There is no good way to fix it. The pain was severe for a while. Now 2 yrs later, I walk with a limp and cannot run, pivot or jump. I've been to the best specialists in NYC and they can't promise me much without extensive surgery and long rehab, which I can't afford. It still hurts everyday. Worst of all, that fucking hornets nest is back up there....

wow, that really sucks. I remember once, when I was around 14-15, Me and my father were burning trash in mexico (where I used to spend half the year for about 10 years) but before the trash burning session and unknown to me, my father had filtered some gas through a plastic milk jug. I had a flaming stick I was playing around with, and I asked my father what would happen if I stuck the flaming stick in the plastic milk jug. Now once again, I remind you that I had no idea about the gas fumes in the milk jug. My preoccupied father mumbled "Go ahead, try it". Now my father is a decent guy. He wouldent have let me mess with the jug if he had known that I was playing with it. So i stuck the stick inside the jug, and flames shot out and gave me second and third degree burns on my left arm and hand. To make things worse, on the drive to the ER, my dad had poured me some water in a bucket to dip my arm into to counter the burn. My mother had just used the bucket to catch the dripping lemon juce that was from her cutting lemons for drinks. After about four weeks, I forgave my father for his stupidity. I healed without a scar in about 9 weeks. Second worse pain.

owch, those sound nasty. I broke my collarbone in 8th grade playing football. It did hurt, but nothing to the degree that carl0z
put it. Mine was a pretty clean break no compound fracture or anything, just cracked in two then bent kind of into a V shape, I wore a brace for a while, but yea, I didn't feel that kind of pain, sorry to hear about the shittiness. Also, when I was growing up, I knew this guy who was into pretty extreme stuff, and he broke his collarbone about 10 times, no joke. |

I geuss you just have to put the whole thing in perspective. I used to be really pissed with my injuries and the "why me" thing. Then I met a young guy with terminal cancer. He lives pain on a daily basis and has had numerous painful procedures, yet he's just the most optimistic person I know, and he's suffered ten times what we have been through. After that, I never cursed my bad luck again
I know it must have been tough to miss that once in a lifetime opportunity you had, but you will get better, and you have your whole life in front of you. I just thank God I can get up every day and not have to worry if I'll be around next year or not.
