You literally (lets take a SBC) has a 4.00" bore (the diameter of the hole the piston sits in) you take that and bore it X. This is commonly refered to as say .030 (thirty over) and means that the once 4.000" bore is now 4.030 in diameter. This would require you to get pistons of the same size.
