I think it's a pretty silly suggestion and rather insensitive, but I don't think the guy who said it was really taking himself seriously.
As usual, a circus of whining erupts whenever such incidents happen. Some of the civil rights organisations are a bunch of distateful hypocrites. Plain sobbing lobbyist SOBs. No one would condone what the note suggested, and nothing says that the note indicated any of the Senator's views on muslims.
Do we ask Saudi Arabia or the Palestinians for a formal apology every time they attack Christianity?

What's easier to believe: that a guy was born without sex in the manner of several Greek demigods and grew up to be able to transmute liquids and alter his body density yet couldn't escape government execution, or that three freemasons in a vehicle made with aluminum foil in an era before digital technology escaped our atmosphere, landing on the moon, broadcasted from there, and then flew back without burning up?
