I find it lol how so many views about the original films are coloured by nostalgia. As stand alone movies, many of them fail.
Case in point: Spiderman. Many ppl wanted to see spidey in modern special effects. Yay! But I thought it was utter crap, just like the sequels. Atrocious casting except for Franco and Dafoe. Hard to take the two leads serious on any level. It got worse with the sequels, especially their fake romance in 3. Series fails all round.
Die Hard 3 is the best in the series, imo. It learnt lessons from Speed about high tempo suspense, and kept the best about 80's action movies. Die Hard 4 was OTT.
