I tried the free weekend last weekend (there might be another one this weekend). It really is almost exactly like WoW. There are a few key differences that I noticed.
There is a huge amount of customization of your skills and character classes. Within each of the 4 classes, there are 8 souls (skill trees) that are all drastically different from each other. You can have 3 active at a time. This leads to a lot of customization. I only played WoW in vanilla days, so compared to then, it's a ton more.
And the other big thing I noticed was the rifts. Rifts are like mini quests that are random throughout the world. And, by random I mean they will happen right next to you while your questing ALWAYS. Essentially a rift opens and some monsters come out in waves that you have to kill. After you kill them all, you get some experience, some faction points, and some loot.
The free weekend only allows you to play up to level 15 though. So, I don't know what happens after that. My guess is more of the same. I didn't try any PvP. I wanted to wait until 19, but I only found out about the level 15 cap when I hit 15.
