I had a supervisor for a few years that I absolutely despised. He was manipulative, unethical, and threatened to fire me at least once a month, usually more often. I did it. I hated it, however, I did my job w/o playing into the politics. When I was pissed I told him so. When he was full of shit, I told him so. When he asked if I enjoyed working there, I told him no. I never once lied to him about how I felt, but I did my job, and did it well. The contractors (our customers) that I worked with never once heard anything negative from me, and I always tried to perform the best I possibly could. I eventually transferred out of that dept. and have earned my former bosses respect (as much as he respects anybody that is).
I tell you this because it matters not how much you dislike your new boss, you have a job to do and an obligation to your employer. Yes it would be fine to start looking for a better job, provided you continue to do the best job you can do while you are still w/ your current employer. Finding another job may be your best solution, but know that the grass isn't always greener...
