Having watched a number of franchises recently, since I'd never seen them and S nearly had a golden cow and twin calves, I can say that there are few I'd give up on.
I actually liked the most recent Die Hard, and Terminator, but more own their own merit, not as a sequel/prequel/connected movie. After the Hobbits were frolicking in a bed together at the end of one of the movies, I decided never to bother with another Lord of the Rings movie... no matter what. The latest Rambo was really cheesy. The last X-Men kinda sucked but I'm looking forward to the prequel this summer and Wolverine, more on their own merit again. I don't go see movies often simply because of their franchise... I RottenTomatoes-them first. If you don't get more than 60%, I'll pass.
That being said:
Please, please, please let there never be another Fockers movie. EVER.
Or that guy that also has the CW shows and cross dresses... Tyler Perry?
Or Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Nutty Professor, Klumps... there are a ton where they could have stopped with the first.
The Matrix, Punisher, Rambo, RoboCop, Transporter (I and II), Lethal Weapon... I has much love for the originals, some for the sequels and a teeny bit of hope for thirds and more, but little faith after that.
If Transformers can't redeem itself after the ghetto-n-word twins, they're fucked.
