WOW, just purchased Modern Warfare 1 used for $25....HUGE difference.
The weaponry and accessories seem *very well* researched (but for the POS red dot sights that probably wouldn't last a month on a deployment). You can stack up on doors and actually breach in the proper way (clearing corners). You bound from obstacle to obstacle with the AI covering you. The firefights actually seem like firefights, rather than just waves of humanoids to mow down.
I think Infinity Ward really did their research with the game, and it shows in the execution. For example, in MW1, the C-130 mission is thoroughly enjoyable--using 105mm cannons and 40mm cannons to provide air support for evac. In contrast, the SR-71 mission in COD: BO, seemed pointless (tell the ground team to move here by pressing X-ooooh! fun!).
In COD: BO, the execution just seems sloppy. After playing certain zombie levels (with an 8 rd M14??), I really got the feeling that COD: BO was more of an arcade shooter than anything else.
Part of the reason why I thoroughly enjoyed COD: MW2 (the first Modern Warfare that I bought) was that it made the player feel as if they were IN theater. For example, in the first mission, you react to an ambush, after which you dismount and clear the buildings from which the ambush occurred. The whole time, you're shooting, moving and communicating with the AI. Bullets are zipping around, and it really gets pretty heart pounding. Also, who can forget the Navy SEAL mission where you infil from a sub, take out the security on an oil rig, and then proceed to jump on a little bird to fly to the next mission?
Anyway. Save your money. Don't purchase Black Ops. Over hyped and under developed.
