I owned a 94 3000gt, automatic, for a year and a half. I bought it with 90,000 miles, and the guy ebfore me probably ragged it. My transmission went out at 95,000. I got that rebuilt for 1600. I traded it at 115,000 miles when my exhaust started smoking on take offs from stop. Every estimate I got said it would be between 3 and 5k for engine rebuild.
That said, here's what i liked. 227 horsepower was really fun. Seat felt like a cockpit, steering was a tight. Automatic transmission felt great. rear seats were tiny buckets, so don't plan to put anything back there. stereo wise, I had separtaes in front and 6x9 in the rear. 2 8inch subs in the hatch were very responsive, since the hatch had a tight seal.
Mechanically, it's very hard for mechanics to get in the engine... it's quite shoehorned in there.
What I've heard about the vr4's is mostly good, but I would be VERY wary of the turbo's wear by the past owner. be very careful, because it sucks when your beautiful ride won't go.
