I agree with the general premise of this guy's ramble. In most emergency situations water, a way to generate heat, food, and medical supplies ARE more important than guns. However, if one goes to the effort to collect the aforementioned supplies it is only logical to have a way to defend those resources so the first baddie coming along armed with a Victorinox pocket knife doesn't take them from you.
And of course the fitness aspect is also huge. As has been mentioned in some other threads, a sizable chunk of the "gun community" is obese. If residential electricity/natural gas broke down, I doubt many of these people would have the fitness to even chop down a tree in their backyard for fire wood.
However the author forgot the "Gold Bug" category. This kind of person believes that by hording yellow pieces of metal that they will able to handle any emergency situation.
