Acid reflux is also a valid suggestion, though it is usually accompanied by a burning sensation in the chest/stomach area. My first thought when I think of a burning throat these days is "oncoming cold".
In the case of acid reflux, the cure would be a Tums (calcium carbonate antacid). If no Tums, a glass of milk. If neither of those work, you may want to seek out some H2 receptor antagonist like ranitidine, cimetidine, or famotidine (I listed off their generic names as they go by different trade names depending on where you live). If you find yourself having more frequent heartburn, it's time to bring out the big guns: proton pump inhibitors. These are more effective than the H2 receptor antagonists. These include omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, etc. I've been on all three of these at various points in my life. The lansoprazole (Prevacid) is now available OTC in the United States.
But if your only symptom of possible acid reflux is a burning throat, you may be able to get away with just drinking a glass of milk.
