cure for a burning throat?

i couldn't find a health section, so i guess i can post in here.

if not feel free to move it.

i am just wondering.. what's the best remmedy for a burning throat?

when i say burning throat, i mean it's fine 1 minit, and then there's a nasty feeling of fire in it and it's making me feel really icky.

it happens to me sometimes, but just passes after a few hours.

i am wondering if there is anything to cure it quicker?

sometimes it hits me like when i am going to sleep or something, and i just can't

I know you feel like the walls are closing in on you, it's hard to find release and people can be so cold.

Bourbon.

Mix hot water, a squeeze of lemon, and a tablespoon of honey with an ounce of bourbon. You can substitute another whiskey if you don't have bourbon handy.

Also, Throat Coat tea by Traditional Medicinals.

Is that acid reflux? Stay away from soda for the next week. Actually, just don't drink anything that isn't water or if you have to, drink less than 300ml's of it.

Do you know the modern man can go for days without drinking water not having known about it? I went a whole week and a half once. I drank soda, coffee, juice but never once drank water. It was unhealthy and made me ill.

Acid reflux is also a valid suggestion, though it is usually accompanied by a burning sensation in the chest/stomach area. My first thought when I think of a burning throat these days is "oncoming cold".

In the case of acid reflux, the cure would be a Tums (calcium carbonate antacid). If no Tums, a glass of milk. If neither of those work, you may want to seek out some H2 receptor antagonist like ranitidine, cimetidine, or famotidine (I listed off their generic names as they go by different trade names depending on where you live). If you find yourself having more frequent heartburn, it's time to bring out the big guns: proton pump inhibitors. These are more effective than the H2 receptor antagonists. These include omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, etc. I've been on all three of these at various points in my life. The lansoprazole (Prevacid) is now available OTC in the United States.

But if your only symptom of possible acid reflux is a burning throat, you may be able to get away with just drinking a glass of milk.

Unless you're lactose intolerant

For a burning throat feeling, I usually used crushed ice in cold water and kinda "shock" it with small sips. If that doesn't work, I'll try warm water or lemonade (insert similar acidic beverage here) in very small sips. If it feels like its coming up from the bottom, a cracker or small bite of a carb (like bread) will sometimes help me. I also use the herbal throat lozenges (e.g. Ricola) to stimulate saliva production and kinda coat the throat with something. Depends on if it feels like it's going from top down (usually something sinus-y with me) or bottom up ("You ate something not right, dumbass").

Acidic beverages are the opposite of what you want to drink.

If you change your diet a little, you can see if that helps. (Orange juice is bad for acid reflux)

Now, if it is a sore throat, the Chloraseptic septic spray is the best thing for it.

If it's not related to an infection, this is the best cure. If you'ore getting soreness with the burning, gargle with warm salt water at 1 tbsp salt to 1 cup warm water dilution, if you catch it right at the beginning the salt can kill off any bacteria on the surface of your throat and your immune system might be able to do the rest. If nothing else, it's soothing.

MSD is totally correct. This is the one my Aunt who's an R.N./N.P. always said to try first. And do it a few times a day for a day or so...esp. before bedtime.

It's true you need to use the salt gargle as soon as you feel the throat irritation.
