As with any commodity, the more you pay the better range of goods you have access to.
The OP mentioned "Escort" rather than "prostitute", and generally I would expect an escort to be good company, and maybe prepared to have sex (assuming this had been agreed in the original commission).
A formal escort service in a country/state where sex for cash is legal and above board is probably regulated, the girls tested for STIs and so on, and if it's a successful business with a good reputation will give you all the normal recourse to complaints procedures and refunds etc as you would get elsewhere.
An illegal escort service that is using "friend for hire" as a cover for "sex for sale" could well have the weaknesses that are mentioned above, and could also see you open to legal action if it actually turns out to be an undercover law enforcement officer hoping you'll solicit for sex.
Not for me (I'm married, AND it's illegal here), but in a place where the legal system allows it I'd say go for it.
