How do you define too loud?
Simple. Get an inexpensive dB meter (RadioShack) and measure the level at the street. I'm assuming you live in a single residence home rather than an apartment. In most cities the acceptable level is a paltry 65 dB, however, usually there is a cutoff time such as 10pm as well.
Remember, you have to live with your neighbors, your friends can come and go.
