I, for one, would love for an alien species to make contact with us to set up trade or to establish diplomatic ties or what have you.
If they have the tech to visit us practically undetected for so many years, then I'm willing to believe that they don't have belligerent intentions. Though I suppose it would be rather frightening if they did.
I wouldn't mind an alien species coming down here and scaring the shit out of us and forever changing the makeup of our global society. The same thing happened in the New World when all those White Men came and did their thing. It doesn't have to turn out the same way if the Green Folk start making contact with us.
With any hope, they're a species (or several) who have been able to progress technologically because they've already progressed philosophically and spiritually or somesuch that they aren't here to conquer but to enrich lives in a win-win situation.
I just found a renewed gusto for reading sci-fi!
