My given name is Sophia and I absolutely hate it!
When I was about ten years old I started asking my friends to call me Lindy, which is my dad's nickname, and a diminutive of our last name. Since we both get called Lindy, that used to lead to occasional confusion ("Did you see the dress Lindy was wearing at the game?") in my home town.
