Amitai is my name. It's one of the most obscure Biblical names: he was the father of Jonah: he's mentioned in passing, once in Jonah 1:1. For most of my life, I hated it, because nobody who didn't speak Hebrew could seem to pronounce it right (Ah-mee-TIE). But eventually, despite that, I learned to love it, because it comes from the Hebrew word, "Emet," which means truth; the name translates literally as something along the lines of "Truthful One," or "Faithful." And I think that's a good name to try and live up to.
Most people just call me Ami, though. (AH-mee, not like Amy spelled by a cheerleader).

I have one of the top three most common names in USA. Michael. My last name is very common in my town so there are like 5-6 people with the same name in my town. Three of them are doctors. I really should figure out how to exploit that.

My first name is Minka. The original Dutch spelling is Minke, but my dad Americanized it so it wouldn't be pronounced wrong. He named me after his friend that lived across the street from him in the Netherlands. I love it and would never think about changing it.

My name is Jason Park. And my current avatar is a real picture of me. I used to be real nervous about revealing things like that on the internet, but I feel like I could share anything here on the TFP. Like the fact that I often have a recurring dream where I perform self-falicio. (oops, probably should save that for another topic...)

First and middle are Jason Alexander. I liked that name until that hairy troll on Seinfeld made it less majestic and heroic. I mean really, his name should have been Doug Fuckwad or something.

My name is Michael, but I have always called myself Mike, simply because my mother always insisted that I be called Michael. When I was a teenager, if a girl rang up and asked for "Mike", my mother would reply that "there is no-one here by that name" and hang up. Can you figure why I was pissed off? |

My given name is Sophia and I absolutely hate it! When I was about ten years old I started asking my friends to call me Lindy, which is my dad's nickname, and a diminutive of our last name. Since we both get called Lindy, that used to lead to occasional confusion ("Did you see the dress Lindy was wearing at the game?") in my home town. Lindy |

Alexandra. I hate it. Always have. My mom wanted to nickname me Lexy, but in daycare and then elementary everyone called me Alex. I got used to it but I didn't really like it either. So I started going by Lexie in highschool. Now everyone calls me Lexie.
But apparently nobody has a friggen clue how to spell it, or often what my name really is. I get called Leslie, Alexa, Alexis, Alexi, Lexa, ect, ect. My mom spells my name Lexy most of the time, My sister spelt it Lexie, so I went with Lexie. My friend Micaela used to have this thing about the "ie" rule, so she spelt is Lexei, then letter Lexi. I pretty much answer to anything. I've thought about changing my name to Lexie legally. But, I dont really care THAT much. As long as you dont call me Alexandra. I'm fine. Except my grandparents, my blood grandparents think my name is Alexander. They always have. ALEXANDER, I'm a girl. Full out. My mom has corrected them a MILLION times, and they just.. ignore it. That bugs me. But, whatever. They're on my dad's side which I only see once a year, and only have to call.. maybe twice a year to thank them for gifts, so, whatever. |

I just saw this thread in the new posts so I'll jump into it.
I can't give my parents any point for being original, my first name is Mark, no middle initial but a double last name, and i haven't found anyone in the U.S. that can pronounce it, but I'll refrain from posting it. <---- I'm not using my screenname for any other purpose than Forums and I've had it on other forums since 1999, so I just kept it. |

Alexandra is a hot name.
My first name is Brady. Not so much fun growing up, as "Brady Bunch" was a common tag, but it was unique, until that guy from Foxborough brought it out of obscurity.
