The Roanoke Colony has always been a fascination of mine, and apparently Stephen King. I lived for five years about a mile from the Croatan Forest. ECU uncovered some clues that the lost colony traveled about 50 miles to the forest before sucuumbing to natural selection.
If it's poisonous or eats you, it grows in eastern NC. The talk of massacre by native Americans is likely wrong. More like bears, gators, and snakes.
Stephen King produced a long ass movie Storm of the Century, which took place in New England, but ended with the word CROATAN scrawled on a boat, just like the lost colony.
