The buffy series is definitely better than the movie. The only thing I didn't like about Buffy when I first started watching is that 1: It's dated. 1997 is a LONG time ago. And 2: It's been copied so many times since then that I already felt I'd seen it before. It took me a long time to get through those episodes but by late season 2 I was hooked and watching multiple episodes every day.
