^ yes^
During the ten year period that I hunted deer,
I chose a bit heavier rifle for steadiness. (A sporterized 303 British/Enfield with a 1x scope.) I was also more comfortable with the bolt action in freezing temps.
I didn't trust my thumb as a safety with the 30-30 lever action.
I was fortunate to have a cousin who trained me well, from the start.
I didn't have bad habits to overcome.
When I used to target practice with various handguns at the range,
it was hard not to notice the basic mistakes of others,
especially the trigger squeeze. The slightest pressure off center creates wild results,
not to mention the anticipation of the 'bang bang' or the raising of the head.
