How is that not acceptable? If you have the votes to change something in the legislature, you can do it. How would this be any less acceptable, democratic or within the rules than if Romney had appointed a republican who would have never had in an election for Kerry's seat? It is a political game and the democrats hold the cards in MA. By the way, the rule would not be reversed, so that is unsubstantiated spin (about a dead man, no less). In the very same link
you posted it is clear that the special election will still take place as determined by the law. The only thing that it changes is that the gov. would be able to appoint a temporary senator (who the current gov. even says should not run in the special election).
How can anyone be against that?
