Alright, I was leaning pretty heavily toward switching to hard drives instead of DVDs, but I needed something to push me over the edge.  This thread has succeeded!

I used to copy my Netflix movies to DVDs.  Now I rip the movie to an mkv file.  It's so much nicer.

 That's the only difference I could see, and maybe I'm missing something but I don't see what the point is.  If I'm not using it, it's not plugged in, and therefore not on.  Do I really need a separate power button?
