comp noise
can anyone tell me why my cd burner is noisier when playing a cd than it is when burning one?
this thing (the new liteon 52x24x52) is unusually loud when Im watching a movie on a burnt cd, but whisper quiet when burning one.
not that it matters much, I just use the Sony dvd drive to watch movies since its much, much quieter. just curious as to the reason for the difference is all.
also, for those of you who are obsessive about noise escaping your case, I'd like to ask this: why? even the loudest case fans/cd drives/hd's I've ever heard (and I've heard and owned some of the loudest, like the liteon i mentioned above) really arent very loud, in comparison to say, normal conversational volume. I mean, personally, I like to be able to hear the low hum of my case fans, means the fuckers are working. I am almost obsessional about my fans. Hell, just the other day, I replaced the power supply fan coz its hum had changed, going about two notes higher than normal. I interpreted that to mean increased friction in the bearing (I do leave it on 24/7 and run it hard a good 6-12 every day). So I expect short fan life and replace them anytime the sound alters noticably. Just sensible and simple precaution, I think. In comparison to the devices they protect, I think fans are a bargain at twice the current prices.
anyway, I was rambling. question was, what is the fascination/obsession with eliminating case noise? I just never got it.
