Total turn on here as well, and has been for as long as I can remember. I was lucky to be raised by parents who taught me that love transcends gender and that I was often visited by couples (het and homo) that showed me what love is.
The male body is a goregous thing to behold. THe only thing better than one is two or more!
As far as it being a "trend"... well, slash fiction (read romances dealing with male/male relationships) are hugely popular in any fandom that you visit. They're way about the 10% mark of the actual gay community and moreover, 90% of slash is written by straight (or slightly curved) women.
If they can read and write about it, eventually, they will want to look at it.
