I would hope that they do not bring in a "Q" like being. That would be too powerful.
I think that the tribbles would be nice as a sub-sub plot piece.
I think that they could pull off a time travelish episode. If it revolved around the "The City on the Edge of Forever" episode mechanics.
Also, lets not forget that the whole no more planet vulcan could be a major plot point as well. Refugees looking to start a new homeworld.
