Star Trek 2... or Star Trek 12
The Star Trek reboot has done quite well, in fact it's done about $240m so far. There's undoubtedly going to be a sequel in the next few years.
For the time being, this should be a speculation thread. Then, as details start to emerge we can shift towards the facts. Then reviews. Star Trek II likely won't be a simple military/war movie, and hopefully it won't feature any time travel (ST: Enterprise and Lost show what happens when you overdo it). I want an adventure, maybe a race to get something or a good old fashioned science fiction mystery. Sure, have plenty of action, but there should be some Star Treky goodness. I loved The TNG episode "The Chase", for example. It really picked up speed and it culminated in filling a massive plot hole while still being fun. We know the screenwriters and actors are signed on for more, but JJ Abrams isn't necessarily going to jump on board. My hope is that he'll see that he has an opportunity not unlike Chris Nolan did with Batman to really make the ultimate sequel of the genre, but JJ's a busy guy. Thoughts? |

I read somewhere that he is planning this to come out in 2011.
I don't really care too much what its going to be about, just so long as its great! I think JJ and this cast can work wonders with whatever they decide to do. |

Obviously I'm looking forward to it and hope they can now leave the origin plot lines behind and just spin a great adventure yarn.
I'd rather not see anymore cameos. Let's move forward please.

People keep talking about bringing back Khan Noonien Singh, but as good a villain as he was, he's already been done. He did what it is that he needed to do: give the original cast a worthy enemy. I feel like we need an original storyline with only minor references to TOS instead of pulling old villains and troubles into the present.
BTW, anyone else think a love triangle might develop between Kirk, Spock and Uhura? |

I don't want to see Khan either. It's been done and it'll be too contentious. I really want them to explore new storylines rather than play the remake angle.
Not that I mind seeing the usual gangs (Klingons, Romulans etc...) I justs don't want it to get bogged down in the new vs. old debate. I also don't want them to try and cram EVERY trek stalwart into the movie. You know, like in Spiderman and Batman and X-Men movies that were more fanboy/toy tie-in checklists than focused stories. One villian or threat will do thanks. Re: The Love triangle; only in a playful way. Uhura and Spock were pretty serious and Kirk has lots of Alien tail to chase. He'll keep teasing her and messing with Spock about it but it'll just be for fun. Kirk's respect for Spock and Uhura's relationship will be fuel for his growing friendship with Spock.

Agreed on the love triangle. It'd be fun to see Kirk just flirt a bit now and again much to the chagrin of Spock.
It'd be interesting to see the rebuilding of Vulcan, but as much as I hate to say it that would bore most of the audience. I'd watch a 16 hour special on the Vulcan culture all the way through while eating green popcorn, as I'm a massive Trekker. Most people would not. Oh snap! What if the Federation has to mediate between the Klingons and the Romulans because Nero destroyed all of those Klingon ships? That might be interesting. It might also lead to the Klingons joining the Federation much earlier than they did in the original time line. |

I think they should just get it over with and do a Star Trek / Stargate crossover. Come on, the Enterprise vs Borg assimilated humanoid replicators or would it be replicators with borg tech? Spock with a Goa'uld, Worf vs Teal'c.. It'll happen.. someday...

I would hope that they do not bring in a "Q" like being. That would be too powerful.
I think that the tribbles would be nice as a sub-sub plot piece. I think that they could pull off a time travelish episode. If it revolved around the "The City on the Edge of Forever" episode mechanics. Also, lets not forget that the whole no more planet vulcan could be a major plot point as well. Refugees looking to start a new homeworld.

Never thought I would see Star Trek feature films that share little but the names with everything previous. Do they really need to show the original series years in an alternate universe? That works for the isolated TV episodes but seems quite questionable for a full film.
A film take on Earth 2 would interest me more than this odd direction they are sending the ST films, but people out there obviously have interest in it.
