Volunteer Work
I've been working in downtown Detroit for a few years now. Before I got this gig I had worked with a independent computer contractor. We did quite a few methadone clinics around the metro area. At the time, I was just out of high school from a well off area. So, walking into these places was a bit terrifying for a privileged white boy. However, the experience I had was a bit different. I was there to get the State regulated pumps working, and after a few visits, everybody else realized this too. Since these things were always fucked up, I became some what of a hero in this place. It gave me the opportunity to realize that these were people like any other, but dealt a shitty hand and some bad choices...
I'm still downtown, I still, somehow have a job, and would like to help, whether it be volunteer work or my ability to teach computer skills. Does anyone have an experience to share or has done some volunteer teaching? I'm really looking at something in Detroit.
Thanks,
Narmy
