Similarly, I know several people who would love to have found "the one," but because no one has worked for them yet, they've been "serial monogamists." It would suck for them if they stuck around someone that didn't work for them simply because they were hung up on the idea that they should have a lifetime commitment to someone.

I was going for the Christian/Muslim (at least for Muslim girls) definition that partners should remain virgins until marriage, and then be faithful to each other throughout their lives. Even though I have gone away from the church, 95% of the relationships of my friends and family are of this type. It is hard to be different from them (if I brought a different girl home for Christmas each year, it wouldn't go over very well).
