I used to not look forward to winter, and then I discovered all of the outdoor activities I could do even when it was miserable so long as I was bundled up. Here in Western Oregon most of the winter is wet and awful, but we've had some odd breaks the last couple of years where there will be no rain for a few days and the weather will just be clear and cold and beautiful. Evidently it's like that almost all the time during winter on the other side of the Cascades, though with snow. It doesn't really snow here. You have to drive to get to the snow. We live about half an hour away from the tallest peak in the Coast Range, and there is often snow up there that is easily reachable, so it is a popular sledding destination. The real mountains are about an hour and a half away, with the nearest ski area not much farther beyond that.
So long as I have my winter coat, I'm fine.
