As long as you're mindful of the mistakes you feel your parents made with you, you can not go wrong.  Be strong in your decisions, knowing that you've made them to the best of   your ability, working to become a better parent than your own.

 That is really all we can expect from ourselves. Each generation did the best they could do at that time, given the information they had from previous generations.
and thank you. A little reassurance goes a long way.  That is another topic all together - on how my parents only pointed out the negative, even when I was doing the best I could.
