Wii exclusives: are they finally coming into their own?

With the exception of a few early successes—Mario Galaxy, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zack & Wiki, Metriod Prime 3—and a few recent ones—Super Smash Bros., Okami, Boom Blox, No More Heroes—why have the Wii exclusives been looking like crap? (I get it! It's cool how the Wii's remote works. We don't need another cooking game! And, please, slow down on the party games...!)

It’s actually kind of embarrassing. I wanted the Wii, thinking there would be more quality games after seeing what they did with Mario Galaxy. But it’s been looking like most of the games are geared towards the under-10 market. We don’t even have any kids.

With the success of the Wii, more publishers have been gradually developing more Wii exclusives. But are we going to see more titles of good quality? Games to make the Wii a must-have system? Maybe. But I’ve been worried.

Then there’s the ports. Besides some quality ports, many of them are getting poorly reviewed, as they are watered-down versions of PC, Xbox, of PS3 games or unearthed and "rejigged" GameCube or PS2 titles. I can understand there are limitations to the hardware, so I’m glad at least a few titles are turning out well.

I do have some hope. Check out this title released at the beginning of the year:

No More Heroes: full intro (NSFW):

And also check out Sega’s upcoming ultra-violent Wii exclusive MadWorld (definitely NSFW):

This is what I’m talking about. These games aren’t so much about touting the best graphics or newest technologies; they are about style and gameplay. I want to play them both.

And recently, I saw this. It’s called Spyborgs, an exclusive from Capcom:

This is also looking pretty good to me. I like the humour and potentially fun gameplay.

What are your forecasts? Do you see a growth in quality Wii exclusives? Have you seen or heard of anything good coming down the pipeline?

And does it often take this long for a system to come into its own with game titles?
