OK, sometimes I'm an idiot. I took the board into the shop where I bought it, and told them there was no post, but everything ran perfectly. They were as vexed as I, until they went to plug it into their test system. They couldn't figure out why the cpu cooler wasn't fitting right. One of the guys pulled the chip, and discovered that I had left the plastic protector on! He popped it off, reset the chip and all is well in my world. I admit, this is my first Intel chip (I've been AMD since my first build in 1995!) so I had no idea that plastic thing (looked like black metal to me) was not part of the chip design. I am back with full function in a really kick-ass non-gamer set up. This thing is fast a hell compared to my old rig, and I hove no overclocking set up. Yea!
