New system, no post
I just built a new system:
Gigabyte EG43M-S2H MB Intel E7200 2.53MhZ Seagate Barracuda 640Mb SATA II HD 2x 1Mb Team Elite DDR2 6400 800 RAM Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro LG DVD Dual-layer Burner Enermax Hornet 500W PSU Enermax ID-1219 case I put it all together with no difficulties, except the CPU cooler was a pain in the ass. When I power it up with a win XP Pro disk in, I get the proper lights, all the fans run, the drives are powered, but there is no post, no video, no sound. This mobo has a ps2 keyboard, but no ps2 mouse. I am using a Logitech USB mouse. I pulled the RAM, and tried it with each stick in slots 1 and 3, no joy. What am I missing? Thanks in advance, gurus!

I unplugged everything, still get power, but no post. I tried the RAM in slots 1 and 3, still no joy. I'm not sure why there is no bios screen or anything. It does have onboard video, which I am using with an old pos 17" monitor. It is a very new board, released this month in Japan with the g43 chipset. is it a bad board?

Well, I've tried everything I can think of, including the CMOS, but I get nothing. It's almost as if the bios wasn't installed. I picked these pieces up at a b&m store, so I'll stop by on my way to work tonight and see if they have any luck with it in one of their rigs. Thanks for the help Lazareth and Plaid!

OK, sometimes I'm an idiot. I took the board into the shop where I bought it, and told them there was no post, but everything ran perfectly. They were as vexed as I, until they went to plug it into their test system. They couldn't figure out why the cpu cooler wasn't fitting right. One of the guys pulled the chip, and discovered that I had left the plastic protector on! He popped it off, reset the chip and all is well in my world. I admit, this is my first Intel chip (I've been AMD since my first build in 1995!) so I had no idea that plastic thing (looked like black metal to me) was not part of the chip design. I am back with full function in a really kick-ass non-gamer set up. This thing is fast a hell compared to my old rig, and I hove no overclocking set up. Yea!

Spiffy never built a intel system myself always prefered the price/performance ratio of the amd a lot more. Sure might not be the fastest chips anymore but they are a whole lot cheaper if you dont mind not having the top of the line stuff. And theres no weird black plastic thing to worry about =P
