I'm inclined to disagree with the three Strange proposed.
1, I'm not familiar with the 10-yard rule, but I do agree something enforcable should be done to promote more respect for the referee's authority, even if it is that useless cunt Graham Poll.
2, I don't think penalty minutes tacked onto a yellow card are a good idea. They already accumulate and affect play in each tournament. Maybe drop it to four or three yellows for a subsequent red?
3, I don't know the game of rugby, but I do feel that one of the very few chivalrous traditions remaining in the world of sport is booting it into the stand when you see an opposing player go down. It does waste some time, I reckon, but it's one of the few - if not only - moments in football when I see a little bit of class, despite the occasional "Kanu moment".
highthief & Platini's "four homegrown" idea just sounds brilliant to me, though. God, can you imagine? Clubs actually concerned about developing youth talent and keeping it for the long term? How ever would the transfer market survive?
It forces clubs to hold on to and develop a minimum number of players for the long term, and it doesn't involve juggling work permits or scrounging for truly gifted players if your nation is bereft of them. Clever idea, that.
