One of our male moderators PM'd me to add some info on the subject. So, with his consent, here is what SecretMethod70 had to add to this subject:

That really surprises me. I've always wondered: If I were approached on the street by a man who obviously wanted to rape me if I would risk my life fighting him? I've always assumed that rapists all carried weapons.
With that info...I would hopefully be able to muster the courage to try to defend myself.
Thanks, Jadz!

Studies have shown that women who fight off rape, believe it or not, end up with LESS injuries and often get away on average. Reason being, most rapists do not have an intent to kill (of course, there is the unfortunate minority who won't let killing get in their way, but it's less likely to run into those types). This is part of why, statistically, the most common weapon in rape is a knife - it's meant for intimidation more than anything else.
Put up a fight and never give up, and your chances of getting free are increased dramatically in most circumstances.
