Print this section out, and carry it around with you. When you start to ruminate unnecessarily, pull it out and read it out loud. Not to yourself, but actually speak the words. It won't take long before it sinks in. You've already arrived at the correct 'solution' in the course of your post, now you just need to drive it home.
