i have trouble with trance for some of the same reasons gucci outlines--and also because as someone else says, this is a form best experienced in a club with good sound outfitted for the space--somewhere like sonotheque in chicago. i like turntablists and was also sucked into d&b through that--two of the best i have ever seen work the form---craze and dj/rupture. both stunning technically and both make sets that have had me dancing like an idiot for a very long time.
but this is only one area i listen to.
there are many forms, and most have their own pleasures.
i don't really find most dance-oriented material interesting as electronic music, though---it doesn't go in anything like directions that interest me. this may be a function of dousing myself with cash repellent every morning.
it's hard to say.
