yikes! I think there have been cases where drag racer's legs have been seriously injured/partially amputated by shattering clutch/flywheel assemblies ...which is why they mandate scattershields in many classes.
I have a lightweight flywheel in my Supra, it's aluminum except for the ring gear. Fortunately, it has not blown up yet.
