During the last election, I had to wait in line nearly an hour before I could vote in the primaries...and I was damn happy about that. Like I said though...the biggest group of people who are free-thinkers (regardless of religious/political affiliation) and aren't stuck in the straight-ticket mindset seem to be in Salt Lake City. I'm not surprised about your father though...I know quite a few conservative folks who are ready to switch sides because they don't like anyone running on the Republican side.
