the HEX missed host and landed on Romney. He is dropping out today.

Huckabee (and Paul) may hang around but cant win even if he gets every remaining delegate.

The Repubican fat lady has sung.

That was a totally graceless note by Romney. And what was the point of it?

Romney is Utah's Golden Boy even though he's not actually from here. I'm sure there are plenty of Utahns shedding a tear because he's dropping out. Salt Lake City excluded, the only regional observation I can make here is (as a poster on my local paper's forum so eloquently put it) a flaming bag of dog poo would beat Jesus Himself as long as said poo had an "R" next to its name on the ballot.

Ratbastid...when I lived in NC, the racism was rampant. Granted, I worked (but didn't live) in a rural area and that may have had something to do with it. I wonder what my old friends think of Obama.

It sounds better than "my wife and children refuse to give up the rest of the personal fortune?"

He did need to give some reason for stepping down, and the "fear" tactic has worked so well in the past during elections. I agree with you that he did a poor job of it.

It started out well. Which post do you think led to the degradation of the topic?

You know, my Utahn (though Episcopal) father--who has only ever in his life voted non-republican when he voted for Ross Perot--is passionately for Obama. He's sick and tired of what the GOP is putting up these days, and he's flat done with Bush. I suspect that there's a strong insurgency of non-righty and moderate-righty Utahns there. That was always my experience growing up there. Now, they're VASTLY outnumbered...

Well, to be fair, I'm in the third largest urban center in the state. As many states demonstrated on Stupor Tuesday, Obama wins urban counties while Clinton wins rural. What race has to do with that, I can only speculate.

Guy was a joke from the get-go. I don't see why he would stop being a joke in his drop-out speech.

I'd like one thread not to turn into a host rant thread if thats not too much to ask of the moderators.

Let's not go there, guys. I know it's tempting, but let's take the high road.

This is an interesting topic. Let's stay on it.

During the last election, I had to wait in line nearly an hour before I could vote in the primaries...and I was damn happy about that. Like I said though...the biggest group of people who are free-thinkers (regardless of religious/political affiliation) and aren't stuck in the straight-ticket mindset seem to be in Salt Lake City. I'm not surprised about your father though...I know quite a few conservative folks who are ready to switch sides because they don't like anyone running on the Republican side.
