anyway - on the fat:muscle thing - the best thing you could possibly do is do a bit of aerobic exercise to warm up every time you go to the gym - then hit the weights hard for a while (btw - if you want muscle bulk then you need heavy weights, low reps, but for strenght, low weight, many reps). As you pump weight you will be burning fat aswell - but the problem with bulking up whilst you still have a bit of the good old flesh on you is that you can't see where muscle definition is coming about and if you are doing stuff rite. Don't get it...lemme give you an example - you do you weighted crunches - but your breathing aint quite rite - so you end up with a hard as nails set of abs - but they protrude out like a set of ...well something. So this hasn't helped you at all - truth be told - if you are past your growing age (about 24) then don't eat for a couple of weeks and burn down to ethiopian style leanness - then go on a high protein diet and bulk up - if you have time. Or else, just watch you do the rite excercises and start work now - you should see impressive results in about 4 months if you keep at it 3 times a week or so. Good luck. Tell us all how it goes
