Are you trying to remove his best supporting actor as a 'villian' opportunity?
As someone who has had 27 stitches in my face, I'm of the 'nature will heal it' club. I have two scars on my face, one quite noticeable on my chin, and one smaller one between my mouth and nose.
Personally, I'd just leave it alone as much as possible to heal and not make a big deal out of it.
